Clinical Trials Research

Research plays a very important role at Children's Memorial Hospital. Currently, hundreds of studies are taking place throughout the hospital and research center that involve many doctors, nurses, scientists, and technicians.

Some of our studies are evaluating new medicines or combinations of old medicines on new illnesses; these are called clinical trials. They may be taking place only at Children's Memorial, or the hospital may be part of a larger group. These group collaborations are called multi-center clinical trials and seek to determine if new medicines are better than older ones.

There are many other kinds of studies, but the goal of virtually all of them at Children's Memorial Hospital is to find new and better ways to treat sick children. Read more about them in these pages.

The National Institutes of Health has a website entitled Children and Clinical Studies, designed to provided a better understanding of clinical research and its role in improving children's health.  It provides practical information about what happens during a study, what kids think about research and questions they may have, all presented in video vignettes.  We highly recommend you review this site if you are considering participating with your child in a clinical trial. Just log on to www.nhlbi.nih.gov/childrenandclinicalstudies.

Please see the blue column on the left for a list of active clinical trials by department.
