Biography

Dr De Plaen’s research focuses on the developmental aspects of the inflammatory mechanisms contributing to necrotizing enterocolitis, a devastating disease of the premature infant, causing sudden bowel inflammation and necrosis. Her special interest is in the regulation of pro-inflammatory cytokines and its regulation by transcription factors. She also works as a Neonatologist at Children's Memorial Hospital and Prentice Woman’s Hospital.
