Biography

Dr. Wang is a molecular epidemiologist whose work unites molecular biology, population genetics, clinical medicine, and epidemiology and brings together laboratory science and child health professionals from multiple disciplines. Her research has covered a broad scope of child health issues ranging from adverse reproductive outcomes, child growth and development, allergy and respiratory health, and childhood precursors of adult diseases, including obesity and metabolic syndrome. Dr. Wang has authored and co-authored over 60 publications in peer-reviewed scientific journals, and many of them appear in prestigious journals, including New England Journal of Medicine and Journal of American Medical Association. She has served as scientific grant reviewer for National Institute of Health and scientific journal reviewers for over a dozen of scientific journals. She has served as a member of Institute of Medicine Committee on Understanding Premature Birth and Assuring Healthy Outcomes.

At present, Dr. Wang is the principal investigator of multiple large-scale molecular epidemiological studies, with a particular focus on a broad range of environmental factors, genetic factors, and the interaction between genes and the environment on adverse reproductive outcomes, food allergy and related conditions, and obesity and metabolic syndrome. Her work has been supported by grants from the National Institutes of Health and foundations, including March of Dimes Birth Defect Foundation and Food Allergy Project.

Dr. Wang received her MD from Beijing Medical University in Beijing, China, and a master of public health from the School of Public Health and Tropical Medicine at Tulane University in New Orleans. She also received a doctor of science degree from the Department of Maternal and Child Health at the Johns Hopkins University School of Hygiene and Public Health in Baltimore. Dr. Wang completed a three-year research fellowship in Environmental Epidemiology at the Harvard University School of Public Health and a residency in pediatrics at Boston Medical Center.
