Chromatin structure and gene expression in airway function.

Department of Pediatrics,
Northwestern University, Chicago, IL
&
Human Molecular Genetics Program,
Children's Memorial Research Center (CMRC)

Applications are invited for a post-doctoral position to investigate the function of
regulatory elements that lie in non-coding regions of the genome and control the
expression of essential genes in human airway function. This project builds on our
recent progress in understanding regulatory mechanisms for the CFTR gene (Ott et al.
2009. PNAS 106:19934, Ott et al. 2011. Nucl. Acids Res. Epub Sept 24th; Zhang et al.
2011, J.Cell Mol.Med. Epub Sept 2nd); also, on our genome-wide identification of
open chromatin in human airway cells. Successful applicants will have strong
motivation, excellent graduate training and a good publication record. Expertise in
one or more of the following areas is desirable: chromatin structure, function and
modifications, DNA: protein interactions, transcription factor biology and
biochemistry. Familiarity with general techniques of molecular biology and mammalian
cell biology is essential.  We are part of a vibrant and interactive research
community at Northwestern University and occupy excellent, well-equipped new
laboratory space.
