1) Post-doctoral Fellowship
Hidden Regulatory Elements for Essential Genes in the Airway.
Applications are invited for a post-doctoral position to investigate the function of regulatory elements that lie in non-coding regions of the genome and control the expression of essential genes in the human airway. This work builds on our recent work on the CFTR gene (Ott et al. 2009 PNAS 106:19934-19939). Successful applicants for this NHLBI-funded program will be highly motivated, possess excellent graduate training, and have a good publication record. We are part of a vibrant and interactive research community at Northwestern University and occupy excellent, well-equipped new laboratory space.
We have identified a group of interesting regulatory elements that likely control the expression of poorly studied genes that are essential for normal airway function. These elements are often located at great distances from the gene promoters that they influence. The project will use state-of-the-art techniques to elucidate the function of these regulatory elements, the proteins that interact with them and the physical mechanisms that facilitate the long-distance interactions. Successful applicants will have expertise in one or more of the following areas: genome-wide approaches to investigate regulatory elements, transcription factor biology and biochemistry, bioinformatics, and/or general techniques of molecular and cell biology.
