Biography
Jared attended the University of Iowa and completed his B.S. and M.S. there in Electrical and Comptuer Engineering. During that time, he spent five years working for the Coordinated Laboratory for Computational Genomics (CLCG) where he began to delve into the fields of bioinformatics and computational biology. While a member of the CLCG, Jared collaborated with various labs and participated in numerous projects including among others: EST processing and clustering of ESTs, development of an application to view intervals on a chromosomal level, microRNA binding site prediction, pseudogene identification and ranking of pseudogenes as candidates for gene conversion.

Jared was hired as an Application Specialist in Dr. Soares' lab in 2005 and promoted to Senior Software Engineer in 2008.  He is again involved in a number of research projects. Some of these include studying the functional significance of genomic alterations in pediatric ependymomas, investigating the role of Alu recombination-mediated rearrangements in cancer, and looking at correlates between genomic methylation and recombination effects.  He also completed his second master's degree in 2010 at Northwestern University in the Computational Biology and Bioinformatics program.
